The Benefits of Renting Blind Flanges

Projects involve lots of moving pieces, but equipment, parts and tools are frequently purchased only for use during a small part of the project. Renting these products for a few days or weeks, instead of purchasing them, can lower your costs, as well as storage and upkeep needs. Can’t decide if you should purchase or rent the blind flanges you need? Project managers throughout Houston who rent blind flanges experience:

  • Decreased costs. Why spend money to purchase blind flanges when you can rent exactly when you need it? Reduce project costs by renting blind flanges for your project in the Houston area.
  • Reduced storage costs. Not only can purchasing blind flanges be a costly investment, but you must find a place to store them when they are not in use. Depending on your facility’s capacity, this might require you to rent extra storage space—costing you even more money. Renting blind flanges minimizes the cost associated with storage fees.
  • A wide selection of blind flanges. We have a large selection of blind flange rentals, so you can rest easy knowing we can provide you with what you need to successfully complete your project.

History of Houston’s Major Industries

Oil Refineries in Houston

Following World War II, Texas became heavily industrialized—particularly in the Houston area. Houston became home to the largest concentration of refineries and petrochemical plants in the world. Exploration of salt domes across the Texas Gulf Coast took off with major oil fields opening at Sour Lake in 1902, Batson in 1903, Humble in 1905, and Goose Creek in 1908. Pipelines and refineries were built throughout much of Southeast Texas, leading to substantial industrialization, particularly around Houston and the Galveston Bay. This was only the beginning of the oil boom, and since then, oil refining in the Houston area has only gained traction.

Houston Offshore Drilling

In 1938, Pure Oil and Superior Oil Company formed the first freestanding drilling platform to make an appearance in the Gulf of Mexico. The platform was built by Brown & Root Marine Operators, a Houston engineering and construction company. Although later rebuilt, the original Superior-Pure State No. 1 well was wiped out by a hurricane in 1940. Across the decades, offshore drilling has become a much more lucrative business—one that has become more popular in Texas over time.

Shipping & Maritime in Houston

In the early days, local Houston leaders argued with their representatives in Washington about the financial necessity of a ship channel—but because of the shipping port in Galveston, their pleas were ignored. In September 1900 a hurricane destroyed the Galveston port. This natural disaster provided ammo for U.S. Representative Tom Ball’s argument that a port in Houston that would be 52 miles north of Galveston, protecting the port from an exposed position on the water. Since then, the growth of the Port of Houston has been phenomenal. The Houston Ship Channel is recognized as a feat of civil engineering and connects Houston, Texas to the rest of the world.
